Master photographer Joann M. Ringelstetter photographed First Lutheran Church on a fall afternoon last year. Her photos so beautifully capture a mood of reverence and stillness that this historic building can evoke. You can’t tell from the photos, but it was a weekday during rush hour. Joann had to set up her equipment across the street and photograph the church between zooming cars that were passing by. She returned at dawn another day to capture the morning light – see if you can tell which photos are the sunrise ones.

Joann is an artist with natural light and perspective. Twilight and dawn are two of her main “art supplies”. She was kind enough to make us a set of note-cards from the photos here, and featured First Lutheran Church on the November page of her 2015 Scenic calendar.

Joann and her sister Ruth publish photos and stories on their blog, Shunpiking to Heaven.  Joann lives in Middleton and is available for your next photography project.  All images in this post are copyright Joann M. Ringelstetter.
